What is medicine?
Isotretinoin treats severe acne that has not responded to other therapy such as antibiotics.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if any of the following conditions:
Heart disease
high cholesterol or triglycerides
inflammatory bowel disease
liver disease
psychological problems such as depression, psychosis, attempted suicide, or a family history of mental problems
osteoporosis, osteomalacia, or other bone disease
pancreatitis
unusual or allergic reaction to isotretinoin, vitamin A or related drugs, parabens, other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives or
pregnant or intend to become pregnant
Breast-feeding
How do I use this medicine?
This medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. They do not chew or suck the capsules. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not use only the doctor.
Talk to your child’s doctor about taking this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
Overdose: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, skip that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. If you take more than prescribed, call your doctor or poison control center immediately.
What may affect this medicine?
Do not take this medicine with any of the following medicines:
vitamins and other supplements containing vitamin
This medicine may also interact with the following medications:
Alcohol
benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, drying or other medicines used for acne
drugs seizures
orlistat
other medicines that you’re more sensitive to the sun such as sulfa drugs
progestin-only hormonal contraception
Wed John’s wort
Steroid drugs such as prednisone or cortisone
tetracycline antibiotics such as tetracycline and doxycycline
warfarin

What should I expect to when using this medicine?
May be a flash in your acne during the initial period of treatment. You will need to visit your doctor or health care professional to obtain a new prescription each month and check your progress and side effects.
This medicine may cause birth defects. Do not get pregnant while taking this drug. Women will have to have 2 negative pregnancy tests before starting this medicine and then monthly pregnancy tests during treatment, even if you’re not sexually active. Use 2 reliable forms of contraception together for 1 month before, during and after a period of 1 month after stopping this medicine. Avoid the use of contraceptive pills that contain estrogen. Can work while taking this medicine. If you become pregnant, miss menstrual cycle, or stop using contraception, you must immediately stop taking this medicine. Severe birth defects may occur even when only one dose is taken. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine or for 1 month after treatment.
Do not give blood while taking this drug for 30 days after completion of treatment to pregnant women not exposed to this drug through donations.
Some patients developed serious depression or mental problems while taking this drug or soon after treatment. Stop taking this medicine if you have a feeling of depression or thoughts of suicide or violence. Contact your doctor.
This medicine may increase blood cholesterol and triglycerides and decrease HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Your health care provider will monitor these values and to recommend appropriate therapy, including changes in diet or prescription drugs, if necessary. Alcohol may increase the risk of high cholesterol or high blood lipids. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this medicine.
If you wear contact lenses may feel uncomfortable. If your dry eyes, consult an eye specialist. This medicine may reduce your night vision or cause other changes in vision. If you experience any changes in vision, stop taking this medicine and see an eye doctor.
This medicine may do more sensitive to the sun. Keep out of the sun. If you can not avoid the sun, protective clothing and use sunscreen. Do not use Sun lamps or tanning beds / booths.
Cosmetic procedures to smooth the skin, including waxing, dermabrasion or laser therapy should be avoided during treatment and for at least 6 months after completion due to the possibility scarring. Check with your health care provider for advice when you can have cosmetic procedures.
This medicine may affect blood sugar levels. If you have diabetes, talk with your doctor or nurse if you notice any changes in your test blood sugar levels.
What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
Side effects that should inform your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:
changes in menstrual cycle
changes in vision such as blurred or double vision or decreased night vision
chest pain
Depression
difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
dizziness
fainting
loss of hearing or ringing in the ears
hives, skin rash
increased irritability, anger, aggression or thoughts of violence
frequent urination and / or thirst or dark urine
irregular heartbeat
loss of interest in usual activities
muscle and joint pain
muscle weakness with or without pain
nausea and vomiting
headaches
severe abdominal pain
slurred speech or difficulty swallowing
beginning to have thoughts about themselves harm
swelling of the face, mouth
unusual bruising or bleeding
yellow eyes or skin
